Hey, it's June

I've had things I've wanted to write about, butfind it difficult to sit and actually type them.

I'll throw some out and will follow up with more subject specific posts.

Running was going really well. I was up to 5 miles, until Memorial Day.  Saturday of that weekend, I had the best bike ride, I have ever had. maintained my cadence and passed some others, all while almost dropping my brother. Monday, was a gorgeous day and I decided to go to the island in the by and jog around it. I figured it was asphalt and may be easier on my joints.
My other brother went with me, so  no music. My legs were toast and I wasn't feeling this run at all. We had a slow start with a lot of walk breaks, but we finally got moving and everything was going hunkie dorie, until I was looking at some jet skiers and didn't notice the pavement giving away, next thing I knew, I was on the ground. My Garmin smacked the ground first, thank god, it prevented my head from smacking the ground. My left side suffered serious road rash, while my right ankle rolled in then out, popping as I went down.
I had to sit on the ground for a few minutes, just to get my bearing. Luckily I was wearing compression knee high socks. My brother was smart enough to have me fold them down around my ankle so it had compression immediately. Problem was, we were a mile into our second loop and had to walk back to the car. Good thing was, I was able to do so.
I bought a brace. have been icing and doing the alphabet with my toes, but have not tried to jog on it yet.
The positive result from this is my new found love of the running machine at the new gym. It's somewhat elliptical, but can mimic running if you do the right stride. The last time I was even on an elliptical, I made it 6 minutes ( yes, I was under going transfusion and bleeding) Now, my longest "run" is up to 90 minutes. This time is allowing me to teach my brain to shut off. I'm not listening to negative self talk, I have mantra's I repeat and am able to do some visualization stuff, so I can keep my pace for the entire time. My heart rate spikes up at the start, and now settles into a range that is comfortable. I don't even turn on the tv. Just me and the ipod.
I sweat. A lot. My face turns red and I look like total crap. I get asked "are you ok?" several times. What I want to say, is "this is what you look like if your here to actually work out. I see many in full faced make up, and not really doing anything, but talking and standing around.
Anyways, I think I got this under control, but did call the sports med clinic today and I'm waiting on a return call.

Another post I will write has to do with my labs and my experiment. Back in January my lipid panel and glucose were the worst they had been. A couple of weeks ago, they are all, well in the normal range- two things changed; training with a coach and a diet change. I stopped buying skim dairy products and switched to 2%, dropped the oatmeal and went back to eating 2 eggs almost every morning, yolks included. When I started with the coach, I weighed 165. Now I weigh 160, but wear a size 10. My favorite pair of jeans are now loose in the waist.
When I weighed 135, and just going to gym classes,  my lipid panel was very abnormal. Now I'm figuring out, perhaps that type of exercise wasn't enough for me, or perhaps all the non fat stuff isn't really all it's cracked up to be?
I'm eating a lot, to maintain energy required. several weeks ago, my coach had me do a food diary. she actually called me, upset, saying I was not eating enough. My carbs are sweet potato and black beans. I added chicken back into my diet and will go to In and Out for a burger, once a week, for B-12. still cant eat a steak or other red meat

I burned out on swimming. I had the opportunity to swim with my brother at the old Y pool, one night this week, and loved it. No gasping for breathe, not hating every minute of the swim, just a great workout. I joined a newly built gym, just down the street, that has a pool, I hate. Not sure why, as I like ever thing else about it.

Bike parts got changed

Not liking school anymore. The merry go round is a joke. This is a whole post

Ok, that is about a weeks worth of posts coming up

  1. Cadence - youngest on bike at mayo for heart test, they used metronome to keep her speed exact while they changed other variables. Beat of songs can do the same thing.

    So sorry about ankle.

I went back to chicken and turkey and fish for same reason.

I find things like "I am working" coming out of my mouth (your mind's gym response) on a regular basis. Receptionist at gym - major gi trouble including hospitalization, but has not stopped wheat and dairy like they have suggested. The words"well, you must not be hurting enough or you would be off the fence" were out of my mouth before I realized it. She said that she hurt a lot but it was too complicated to not have wheat and dairy. I said - huge produce section at any grocery in town. I know I was wasting my time and she was not interested in hearing any of that and it was not my business, what I really needed to do was stop asking how she was doing.

    Keep the posts coming!

  2. Hope your ankle is feeling better. I have been walking (1/4mile)to the highschool track every morning and doing a walk/jog thing (walk 1/8 mile/jog 1/4 mile walk 1/8mile)..I say I'm jogging but it's more like power walking with a boost lol..I'm so afraid of injuring an ankel/knees if I start actually jogging.

Love reading your posts, but understand about not always able to sit down and write them..I avoided my blog for a good month. It was just too much to sit down and rehash. Glad to see your post :)
